FUTURE PROJECTS
Rectory Conversion
Convert Rectory to Parish Center to support Community Outreach programs
With the sale of the St. Colman School Building, meeting rooms and space for the many Outreach programs St. Colman’s provides has become an issue.
- These programs, which are vital to our parishioners and the community we serve include such things as:
- The Parish School of Religion (PSR) which provides religious education to children along with preparation for receiving the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation.
- Seeds of Literacy, a GED preparation program, was first developed at St. Colman’s by Sister Kathleen Kilbane, CSJ. It later became a county wide program and has spread throughout the country.
- ID Program, which assists in obtaining valid identification for job applications, education, medical and housing. This program was also first developed at St. Colman’s, by Eileen Kelly, former Outreach Minister and is now a county-wide program.
Computer Lab
Equip computer lab with working computers to provide weekly beginner computer classes. Provide refurbished computers to students who complete the program.
Parish Hall Renovation
Renovation of Parish Hall to provide a safe and welcoming space
From coffee and doughnuts after Mass to the famous St. Patrick’s Day Mass and celebration, the St. Colman Parish Hall is truly the heart of the Parish.
It’s where family and friends gather for the Neighborhood Meals and social activities such as the free Bingo games, fund raisers and other special events.
It houses Carol’s Library, providing free books and encouraging reading for our parishioners and guests, especially those who may not have access to the public library.
It provides space for AA and other meetings and serves as an historical reminder of when the Parish Hall was the “lower Church” where daily Mass was offered.
It is now in need of ceiling and floor repairs and a general rehabilitation of the facility, at a minimum so that it can continue to serve the needs of parishioners and friends.
Church Elevator
The ramp on the North Side of the Church and the lift to the Parish Hall currently made it possible for everyone to attend services and programs. However, greater handicap accessibility and assistance to those in need would be tremendously enhanced through the installation of an elevator.
